Dr. Jessica Heintz, MD is a palliative medicine specialist in Northern Virginia with over 20 years of experience in the medical field working to integrate best practices in palliative care across the continuum of care. Her interest in palliative care began in her internal medicine residency at William Beaumont Hospital after which she went on to train in palliative medicine at The Cleveland Clinic, while there she was named Fellow of the Year in palliative medicine. Following her fellowship, Dr. Heintz practiced for nine years at Capital Caring in Fairfax, Virginia serving as the Medical Director for hospital based palliative care as well as the Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship program. She then joined the Inova Health system where she founded the Palliative Medicine and Comprehensive Care program in 2013, and served as Medical Director of palliative care for the Inova Health System.
Dr. Heintz has been nominated as a Northern Virginia Magazine Top Doctor and has also won several leadership awards during her career. She has extensive experienced in pain and symptom management, preventing and reducing suffering, improving quality of life and helping patients and loved one’s cope with the stress and burden of advanced cancers and illness. She has been published in the Journal of Pain and Symptom Management and The American Journal of Hospital Palliative Care. Dr. Heintz’s focus is on excellence in communication regarding symptom management, and defining treatments that meet individual needs and optimize quality of life.
In her free time, Dr. Heintz enjoys spending time with her family, her husband, and 2 children. She believes in having faith, seeing the beauty in every day and loving deeply.
